DSWD mulls safe vagrants’ haven

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), upon orders from Secretary Erwin Tulfo, plans to set up safe haven among local government units (LGU) to solve the problem of street children roaming around the streets and begging alms in busy traffic roads.

DSWD Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Rommel Lopez said the agency, during a regular virtual forum of “Balitaan sa Tinapayan” in Dapitan, Manila plans to join hands with local governments on the problem of street children.

Lopez said that the DSWD is looking for an area on each LGU to put up safe havens for street vagrants where they will be rescued from the streets ,cared for and fed.
