‘Drug-courier’ minor collared

As Senator Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa warned against the possible return of drug-recycling “ninja cops” and syndicate-coddling narco-politicians, the same may be starting to hold true regarding the use of minors as drug couriers.

This concern came to light anew following the arrest of a 23-year-old man and a minor during a buy-bust operation in Navotas City Monday night, during which 260 grams of marijuana were seized from the duo.

The adult suspect was identified by the police as Daryl Ragas, who was nabbed in a drug sting by a team led by P/Lt. Luis Rufo along Mandaragat Street, Barangay North Boulevard South.

Drug syndicates are known to use minors in their illicit trade because they are easily replaceable.

Recovered from Ragas was a handbag that contained three small marijuana bricks and a transparent zip-lock plastic bag also containing marijuana leaves, all with an estimated street value of P31,200.

Ragas was detained to face charges of drug pushing and possession under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The minor was turned over to the city social welfare office.
