Chery picks top spikers

Three fast-rising volleyball stars — Eya Laure, Jen Nierva and Bella Belen — have been tapped as brand ambassadors of an equally fast-rising car brand.

Laure, who spikes for University of Santo Tomas and the National University (NU) duo of Nierva and Belen, have been selected to represent Chery Auto Philippines, a known supporter of volleyball in the country.

The tieup involving Chery and the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) players were formally announced Friday in a social media post that cements its commitment to the sport.

Belen is the first UAAP Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player in women’s volleyball as she led National University to the UAAP Season 84 title.

Another Lady Bulldog in Nierva was hailed as Best Libero in Season 84 and was another key player in the championship run for NU.

Laure was a UAAP Season 81 Rookie of the Year and was also awarded the 1st Best Outside Hitter in the same season playing for University of Santo Tomas.

All three players have also been part of the national team with their last stint taking place during the Asian Volleyball Confederation Women’s Club Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand last year.

Chery Tiggo Crossovers manager Aaron Velez told Daily Tribune that the move is significant as it is still a relatively young player in the Philippine automotive industry.

While he admits having such quality players in the team would enhance its image, Velez said the company’s main objective for now is to support the players for the upcoming UAAP Season 85 women’s tournament.

“It’s significant because Chery is still young in the Philippine automotive industry. Dynamic, Growing and Promising. Like our Chery ambassadors, the team is thrilled and happy seeing young and rising volleyball stars to represent and be part of Chery Auto Philippines family,” Velez said.

“I think any team would like to see them play for their team. Who doesn’t want to? For now, their main focus is UAAP Season 85. Chery acknowledges it and is very supportive in their endeavors.”
