Fan sign: When K-pop idols chat in person with followers

Filipino fans had a field day with back-to-back K-pop events last July — idols Jung Ye-rin and Choi Young-jae flying back to Manila to promote their respective new music.

Jung held an exclusive fan sign event on 22 July at the New Frontier Theater. Fan signs allow fans to engage their idols in short conversations.

Selfies, solo and group photo ops, Hi-Touch and “Goodbye Session” are added perks for the fans.

Jung debuted as a solo artist with the track “Aria” from the mini album of the same name. In the song’s music video, she’s seen frolicking through flower backdrops like an expression of freedom.

She was formerly the lead dancer and vocalist of GFriend, the six-member group behind the hit songs “Rough” and “Me Gustas Tu.”

The following day, 23 July, singer-songwriter Choi, formerly of Got7, held his own fan sign and show at New Frontier Theater dubbed Mini Concert: Sugar in Manila.

He opened with the song “Tasty,” and went on to render “Focus,” “Vibin’” and “Sugar.”

Choi likewise played the games “Guess the Song” and “Yes or No” with fans.

He recently wrapped up promoting his web drama Love & Wish. The Sugar album comes a year after he went solo.

Choi hosts a radio program Best Friend.

Got7 first came to the Philippines in 2015 for a fan meet. The group returned in 2016 for its Flight Log: Turbulence tour in Manila and Cebu. It came back a third time in 2019 for the Keep Spinning World Tour.

Jung’s Aria and Choi’s respective fan sign events were presented by Y Global Music in partnership with CDM Entertainment.
