LK Go shares 4th place

Amateur Lois Kaye Go got a big lift from an eagle to close with five under par 67 and finish in a share of fourth place in the Mizuno Cali Q-School Prep Series No. 2 at Marriott’s Shadow Ridge in Palm Desert, California.

The 23-year-old product of the University of South Carolina finished the 36-hole event on 3-under 141, six shots behind amateur Nataliya Guseva who carded 68 and 67.

Go, who started at the back, birdied 11 and bogeyed 12 before reaching the turn on 2-under, thanks to birdies on 14 and 16.

She birdied 2 and jumped to 5-under for the day following an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole. A birdie on 8 countered another bogey on 7 as she closed with a par on 9.

“I thought I played pretty consistently throughout the round. I did really well in the par-5s today,” she said. “Hit two of them in two and gave myself good birdie chances in the other two which I was able to convert.”

“And when I did make a few mistakes out there, I was able to pull off some good par saves,” she added.

Go was 5-under in par-5 holes including a 35-foot eagle she set up with a five-iron from 181 yards.

She birdied the rest, including one in which she reached the green in two.

Her two bogeys came from missed greens on par-3 holes where she missed par putts inside 12 feet.

Sunshine Baraquiel, who sparkled with a 66 for the first-round lead, finished on even par 144 after a 78 and tied for 12th place.

She opened her round with a double bogey before dropping another shot on 4. After a birdie on 6, she closed the front nine with a birdie and a double bogey.

Already 5-over going home, Baraquiel made two birdies against a bogey and a double bogey.

Chanelle Avaricio carded a 76 to end up in a share of 35th on 4-over 149.

Go, Baraquiel and Avaricio are preparing for the first stage of the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour Q-School next week.
