University of the Philippines named Shaq Delos Santos as the new head coach of its women’s volleyball team for Season 85 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
Delos Santos, who currently handles Cignal in the pro ranks, is making a comeback in the country’s prestigious collegiate league after five years.
He will replace Godfrey Okumu as the Fighting Maroons’ head tactician.
Delos Santos steered University of Sto. Tomas to a championship in 2009.
The former women’s national team mentor’s last stint in the UAAP was in 2014 to 2017 when he called the shots for Far Eastern University. Under his watch the Lady Tamaraws saw three Final Four appearances.
Delos Santos is coming off a successful campaign with Cignal in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference where the HD Spikers placed third.
With Delos Santos onboard, the Diliman-based squad hopes to improve its ranking after finishing Season 84 with a 5-9 win-loss record at sixth spot.
