Davao logs 628 fresh virus cases

DAVAO CITY — The Department of Health in the Davao Region reported that majority of the 628 new coronavirus disease 2019 cases in the region from 1 to 7 August involved unvaccinated people — including 11 who succumbed to the deadly respiratory disease.

DoH-11 assistant regional director Dr. Gerna Manatad on Monday disclosed that the figure is 34.5 percent higher than the Covid-19 cases recorded from 25 to 31 July and data also showed that 11 deaths were logged during the period while three severe and critical cases were also recorded.

“We have to increase our vaccination rate, especially for the vulnerable individuals,” Manatad said.

To recall, DoH-11 launched the PinasLakas campaign recently to bring the vaccination closer to the public by installing vaccination sites in communities and places of convergence.

The agency maintained that when people complete their primary and booster vaccines, they would be able to live and work worry-free, learn more about safety, and avoid expenses associated with Covid-19 hospitalizations.

“According to the presidential directive for the first 100 days of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the region should accomplish 50 percent coverage of booster shots by 8 October,” Manatad said.
