The Office of Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, extended assistance to disadvantaged communities in Talavera, Cuyapo, and Carranglan, Nueva Ecija.
Held at Talavera Municipal Gymnasium, Umali Gymnasium in Cuyapo, and TL Padilla Gymnasium in Carranglan, the senator’s staff distributed meals, masks and shirts to a total of 150 struggling residents. They also gave away bicycles, cellular phones and shoes to select individuals.
Meantime, a team from the DSWD provided livelihood grants through its Sustainable Livelihood Program to give the residents a chance to start a small business that may help sustain their daily needs.
Acknowledging the hardships caused by the global health crisis, Go appealed to eligible residents to participate in the national inoculation drive and get their complete shots against Covid-19 to better safeguard themselves from the virus.
The lawmaker also urged the public to help the government attain population protection by encouraging other eligible Filipinos to get vaccinated, underscoring the need to raise awareness in order to address vaccine hesitancy.
“Tuluy -tuloy po ang ating pagpapabakuna ng gobyerno kaya pakiusap ko po sa inyo na magpabakuna na po kayo. Iwasan po natin na bumagsak ang ating healthcare system, yung napupuno po ang mga ospital,” said Go in his video message during the relief activities on Thursday, 11 August.
As chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, the senator reminded the beneficiaries to prioritize their health while working hard to provide for their families amid the pandemic.
To ensure that the residents get the medical care they need, Go urged them to reach out to his office or visit Eduardo L. Joson Memorial Hospital and Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center, both in Cabanatuan City; and Talavera General Hospital in Talavera, where there are Malasakit Centers that could assist them with their hospital expenses.
The Malasakit Center is a one -stop shop which streamlines the provision of medical assistance by bringing the relevant government agencies under one roof, namely, the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
Go has also supported numerous initiatives to help promote economic gain and improve public service delivery in the province. Among these are the construction of the Amphitheater located at the Talavera National High School; the rehabilitation of roads in Cabiao, General Tinio, Pantabangan, Zaragoza and Cabanatuan City; construction of flood mitigation structures in General Tinio, Quezon, San Antonio and Zaragoza; construction of multipurpose buildings in Gabaldon, Sta. Rosa and Cabanatuan City; completion of the DR. PJGMRMC in Cabanatuan City; reconstruction of the Llanera public market; rehabilitation of the Baloc public market; and installation of streetlights in Zaragoza.
