San Pedro, Laguna students to receive free school supplies from city gov’t

Schoolchildren in San Pedro, Laguna, from kindergarten to senior high school, will be receiving free school supplies courtesy of the city government led by Mayor Art Mercado. The LGU’s hope is that by providing such assistance to students, the city’s education system will eventually improve as a whole.

With the help of the City Accounting Office, Mercado was able to allocate funds for the purchase of school supplies not only for students, but for teachers as well. Some 70,000 students will receive the free school supplies, which are set to be distributed by batch.

Mercado also wants to improve and strengthen the scholarship offerings of the city, especially the Iskolar ng Lungsod ng San Pedro for college students. The mayor aims to show that through such initiatives, the city’s residents will see that their taxes are being used effectively for their welfare, and that such social programs, projects and activities are only possible with their contribution through taxes.

Under Mercado, the city government of San Pedro is hard at work to be the first in Laguna in all aspects, expressed in the vision #UnaSaLaguna which is anchored on the mayor’s goal of a participative, collaborative governance of the city under his term.
