Dear Atty. Joji,
I rarely use my credit card. I only use it for my groceries which also is not all the time because I always pay in cash. Last month, I received my monthly bill and it states that my card has been used to purchase an iPad. I didn’t buy it. I reported it to my bank and still got no response.
Help me, Atty. Thank you!

Dear Ariel,
A credit cardholder has 30 calendar days within which to report to the credit card issuer any error or discrepancy in his/her billing statement. Credit card issuers have 10 business days within which to act on the report.
Please be informed of the provisions of Section 18 of Republic Act 10870, otherwise known as “Philippine Credit Card Industry Regulation Law,” which reads:
“SEC. 18. Complaint on Billing Error or Discrepancy. — A credit card issuer shall give cardholders up to thirty (30) calendar days from statement date to report any error or discrepancy in their billing statement. The credit card issuer shall take action within ten (10) business days from receipt of such notice.”
In your situation, if your bank/credit card issuer has not yet acted on your report despite the lapse of 10 days, it is highly advised that you make the necessary follow-up and inform them of their obligation that is stated in the abovementioned law.
Hope this helps.
Atty. Joji Alonso
