Some Coast Guard personnel, especially Education graduates, are attending to students in remote areas that have no teachers, such as in Pag-asa or Thitu Island in the West Philippine Sea.
In an interview on the Daily Tribune-RJTV morning show “Gising Na!,” PCG spokesperson Commodore Armand Balilo said two of their personnel, CG Ensign Jev Latic and CG Ensign Arnel Gomora, both graduates of Bachelor of Elementary Education and manning PCG Station Kalayaan, have started teaching Grade 1 students on Pag-asa Island.
Balilo said the lack of teachers on Pag-asa was raised during a visit by National Security Adviser Dr. Clarita Carlos to unveil the PCG Community Center on the island.
It was learned that students from grades 1 to 6 have only one teacher.
