4 Pinays advance in LPGA Q-School

Four Filipinas, led by Epson Tour campaigner Abby Arevalo, advanced into the second stage of the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour Q-School in California Sunday.

Arevalo, Chanelle Avaricio, Daniella Uy and amateur Samantha Bruce inched closer toward their dreams of making it into the LPGA Tour.

Arevalo did not make a single bogey for the second straight day while making two birdies to shoot a 70 at Mission Hills’ Dinah Shore course where the final round was held.

She rolled to 13 straight pars before picking up birdies on 14 and 16.

Arevalo tied for 32nd spot on 6-under 282, one of 79 players who broke par in the 72-hole event played in three courses.

Chanelle Avaricio tied for 80th on even par 288 after struggling to a 78.

She made only one birdie against five bogeys and a double bogey.

A total of 106 players made the cut on 2-over 290, including Uy and Bruce who had anxious moments before play was completed.

Uy made one birdie against a lone bogey to close with 72 while Bruce battled inconsistency in posting a 76.

Bruce made two birdies against two bogeys and two double bogeys.

Two other Filipinas, amateur Lois Kaye Go, and Sunshine Baraquiel, missed the 54-hole cut on Saturday.

Topping the first stage was Italian Alissandra Fanali who shot a second straight 69 for 14-under 274, one shot behind Thai amateur Natthakritta Vongtaveelap and Colombian Valery Plata who shot 67 and 68, respectively.

The second stage is slated 18 to 21 October at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida.
