After a resounding success of its inaugural Mobile Legends tournament, the Collegiate Center for Esports is looking to come up with a bigger, bolder and fiercer Season 2.
In a statement, CCE president Stanley Lao hinted at expanding Season 2 amid the growing interest from various schools around the country.
“We’re expecting an even better Season 2, which will be far bigger than the Season 1,” Lai said on the heels of the league’s first official tournament last month that culminated in front of a sizable collegiate Esports crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena.
In Season 1, Lyceum of the Philippines University lorded it over nine counterparts with a magnificent run ignited by a sweep of the elimination rounds.
Overall, the Pirates, who also won the CCE Varsity Cup that served as the league’s launching event last year, only lost two matches in a masterclass campaign highlighted by a 2-0 sweep of No. 2 San Sebastian College in the grand finals to clinch the first ever CCE title.
Arellano University, San Beda University, Letran College, Mapua University, College of Saint Benilde, Jose Rizal University, Emilio Aguinaldo College and University of Perpetual Help System Dalta were the other teams that pioneered CCE as the country’s newest Esports collegiate league.
The CCE expressed its gratitude to these schools as their joint efforts helped realize the dreams of student-athletes who aspire to excel on and off the virtual arenas through responsible gaming and unwavering commitment to their education through their school’s respective Esports clubs and academic programs.
That alone should be enough motivation to shift the gear higher in future tournaments for CCE with commissioner Waiyip Chong as well as Galaxy Racer as official partner, Converge as connectivity partner, Mountain Dew as gaming fuel and Cyberzone as venue partner.
Lao said this early, they have been receiving feelers from different schools who are looking to join them in helping as well as promoting, developing and championing collegiate Esports in the country.
“It’s a dream come true for us as the students were finally given the chance,” Lao said.
“We, at CCE, were more than thrilled, honored and pleased to see their happiness. We are all happy and hoping to draw more support.”
