Sescon appointed Quiapo Church head

Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula has appointed Fr. Rufino “Jun” Sescon Jr. as the new head of the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, more popularly known as Quiapo Church.

Sescon is taking the place of Monsignor Hernando Coronel, who is doing missionary work in Yukon, Canada after holding the post since 2015.

The new head of the Quiapo Church has served as the private secretary of the late former Manila archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin. He’ll be transferring from the Sto. Niño de Paz Chapel or Greenbelt Chapel in Makati City where he had served since 2005.

Meanwhile, Advincula also named Fr. Jonathan Noel Mojica as Quiapo parochial vicar, while its former rector, Monsignor Jose Clemente Ignacio, was named as an attached priest.

Fr. Antonio Wang Yuhang was appointed as parochial vicar and vice-rector of the National Shrine of Saint Jude Thaddeus located in San Miguel, Manila.

The new appointments were included in the circular dated 20 August, which was released only on Monday.
