AVC Cup: Phl routs Iran

The Philippines finally chalked up a win in the Asian Volleyball Confederation Cup for Women after carving a 25-16, 25-22, 20-25, 25-14 win over Iran at the Philsports Arena Wednesday evening.

With the win, both teams tied with similar 1-2 win-loss records as the Philippines, composed of the core from Creamline, got a win after back-to-back losses.

Tied at 4 in the fourth set, the Philippines went on a 13-6 run to erect a seven-point advantage, 17-10.

Taking a 23-11 lead, the Iranians scored three consecutive points to extend the set but an attack error from Mahsa Saberi and a drop shot from Jema Galanza secured the win.

Galanza led the Philippines with 21 points while Premier Volleyball League Most Valuable Player Tots Carlos added 14 markers built on 12 attacks and two kill blocks.

Elahe Poor Saleh Shadesari was the only Iranian who reached double digits with 13 points.

The Philippines faces South Korea tomorrow at 7 p.m.
