Coffee for a cause in Antipolo

A one-year-old café in Antipolo City has launched its own donation drive for the Angat Buhay foundation of former Vice President Leni Robredo.

For every purchase of beverages upgraded in their special edition “Angat Buhay cup,” P20 will be donated to the foundation — P10 from the customer, and another P10 from the coffee shop itself.

After the Weekend Kofi launched the project on 25 July it became viral, gaining the year-old café plenty of followers supporting the initiative.

“After I received the (Angat Buhay)cups from my supplier, I realized we have a lot of kakampink customers, so why not do some initiative for the Angat Buhay itself?” owner Giselle Sierra told the Daily Tribune.

Since the project started, the coffee shop has received a lot of anonymous sponsors paying for a few cups of coffee to be shared with others free of charge.

“Most of the anonymous sponsors are far from Antipolo so they cannot order (for themselves), so they opt to buy drinks for others,” Sierra said.

Sierra added that she gained inspiration from one post she saw on Facebook with a similar project, and she did not expect that theirs would go viral.

Launched in 2016, Angat Buhay is Robredo’s contribution in the country’s fight against poverty during her term as vice president. After she stepped down, it was transformed into a
non-governmental organization on 1 July with the hope to sustain the volunteerism that her campaign ignited.

The Weekend Kofi’s initiative will run until stocks for the special “Angat Buhay” cup last. The management has allotted 1,000 cups.
