Last-mile school opened in CamSur

The Department of Education (DepEd) has formally opened a last-mile school in Camarines Sur to cater to learners of Sitio Lipata, Barangay Gogon, Caramoan.

Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Z. Duterte said Lipata Elementary School is categorized as ‘last mile school’ or one without electricity. The classrooms, she said are not standard, and there are no more than four classrooms.

It, however, has six new classrooms, Duterte said.

In her message, Duterte extended her admiration to all its teachers for their dedication to teaching in ‘last mile schools’ just to give students the proper education.

“Teaching in a last-mile school requires courage and every dose of persistence in your being. I commend you for your hard work and dedication, and I hope that you will continue to persevere against all challenges to teach our children 21st-century skills and develop them to become productive and responsible citizens of the country,” the DepEd chief said.

The Last Mile Schools Program is one of the flagship initiatives of the past administration. It primarily seeks to bridge the gap in schools that have not reached the allocation criteria for education inputs.
