No Pinoys affected in Islamabad flooding — DFA

The Department of Foreign Affairs reported on Sunday that there are no reports of Filipinos affected by sea-like flood waters that are now ravaging Pakistan.

“As of 27 August, no reports of affected Filipinos from Sindh and Punjab,” the DFA said in a statement, adding that the Philippine Embassy in Pakistan is still waiting for an update from the Filipino communities about their situation in Balochistan.

Balochistan is one of the heavily-battered provinces by floods in Pakistan.

There are around 3,000 Filipinos working in the South Asian nation, of which about 90 percent are household service workers and the remaining are professionals and international organization staff.

Due to the massive flooding, the government of Pakistan was prompted to declare a national emergency after the death toll hit nearly 1,000. Most of the casualties recorded were children.

The flood also displaced over 3.1 million people. In addition, almost 710,000 livestock are lost, and thousands of kilometers of roads and bridges were destroyed, according to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
