Zamboanga City reopens Covid facility

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The City Health Office has reopened a 320-bed capacity isolation facility in Barangay Talisayan amid a surge in active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 here.

According to city health officer Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, the reopening of the P134-million mega isolation facility inside the Zamboanga Economic Zone and Freeport Authority aims to accommodate the rising number of Covid-19 cases.

She added that the sole isolation facility in operation in Barangay Pasonanca is now at critical risk level due to the surge of active cases. The mega facility already has 14 Covid-19 patients admitted as of Tuesday.

Latest data from the City Health Office showed that there are 376 active cases of Covid-19 in the city.

Of the total active cases, 361 were acquired through community transmission, nine are detainees, three authorized persons outside residence, two persons deprived of liberty, and one Bureau of Jail Management and Penology personnel.

Meanwhile, there are 48 confirmed Covid-19 patients admitted at the government-run Zamboanga City Medical Center as of Tuesday.

ZCMC’s Public Affairs and Customer Care Unit that out of the 48 confirmed positive patients, 40 are from Zamboanga City, three from Zamboanga del Norte, three from Basilan, one from Zamboanga Sibugay province and one from Sulu.

The ZCMC is the Covid-19 referral hospital of Zamboanga Peninsula and Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, which are already part of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
