Beauty training center owner charged over permit lack

A woman arrested earlier by the National Bureau of Investigation will be facing criminal charges on the order of the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office for operating an aesthetic and
dermo-pigmentation training center despite the “lack of registration and authority” from the national government.

Wenie Garupa Argonza was ordered charged in court for violation of Section 68 in relation to Section 28 of the Education Act of 1982.

Argonza was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division of the National Bureau of Investigation on 12 August in an entrapment operation at the Argonza Aesthetic and Dermo-pigmentation Academy in Barangay Tejeros, Makati City.

Glenmae T. Bobier, Argonza’s assistant, was also arrested.

The preliminary investigation on the case against Bobier was set by the Makati City prosecutor’s office, “as there are issues that need to be clarified which cannot be resolved at present.”

Senior Assistant City Prosecutor Cherrilyn Go-Ortiz recommended the filing of the charges against Argonza, which was approved by Deputy City Prosecutor Jose Laurente. A bail of P12,000 was recommended.

The NBI in its complaint, through director Medardo de Lemos, stated the operation against the training center was conducted after receiving last 5 August a report that Argonza was “engaged in the actual acts of physically administering medical treatments and teaching medical procedures and practices without authority and licenses to do so.”
