P1B to extend Cebu expressway

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corp. will invest P1 billion to open a new ramp along the 8.9-kilometer Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway to provide motorists direct access to the province’s main business district and generate more economic activities.

In an interview on 16 September, CCLEC president and general manager Allan G. Alfon said the company is awaiting the local government’s ordinance for the project.

“There are proposals at the table to extend the expressway, but for me what is more urgent now is the Guadalupe ramp. Cebu City is looking at reviving the Guadalupe ramp exit and entry… for more tourists coming from the island,” Alfon told reporters.

The Guadalupe ramp is a two-kilometer extension that has a “rough estimate” of P1 billion in project cost.

It can potentially add 10,000 to 12,000 daily vehicle traffic along the toll road.

Alfon said CCLEC is eyeing to end the year with 20,000 daily vehicle traffic from the current 12,500 amid the revival of tourism activities and resumption of physical work and school setups.

“20,000 vehicles daily will translate to P2 million in revenues daily. In the next two years, we hope to reach 40,000 vehicle volume; but design the capacity of the expressway can handle over 50,000 vehicles,” he said.

To further ease travel and add value to motorists and tourists’ experience, CCLEX wil transition to full electronic toll collection starting 1 October.
