BRP Gregorio Del Pilar to sail soon

The Philippine Navy announced its patrol ship BRP Gregorio Del Pilar will soon resume its naval mission and is ready to sail heading to the West Philippine Sea after finishing off dry docking for repairs and maintenance.

Since its stranding in the Hasa-Hasa Shoal in August 2018, Navy spokesperson Commander Benjo Negranza said the ship has undergone several repairs and upgrades to ensure the restoration of its seaworthiness for maritime operations.

“Her propulsion system was successfully restored last August 2022 and performed a series of sea trials and endurance run with satisfactory results,” Negranza said.

One of the ship’s two variable pitch propellers, along with its propeller hub, was damaged.

Several system upgrades were likewise made to enhance the BRP’s capability for Maritime Domain Awareness.
