Yas, Kween!

The queen is dead, long live the king! But even if Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, has been laid to rest after a private burial ceremony on 19 September at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor next to her husband Prince Philip, her feisty spirit and wit will forever be remembered.

Perhaps of all the declarations — official or otherwise — that she has made, nothing could be more memorable than those that she uttered with candidness. As a royal salute to the Queen, here are some of her quotes one can live by that have been immortalized by various sites honoring the late monarch:

On Covid-19 pandemic:
“While we have faced challenges before, this one is different. This time, we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavor, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal. We will succeed — and that success will belong to every one of us.

“We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: We will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.”
“Grief is the price we pay for love.”

On the art of small talk
“If you find somebody a bore, the fault lies with you.”

On growing older
“None of us can slow the passage of time; and while we often focus on all that has changed in the intervening years, much remains unchanged, including the Gospel of Christ and his teachings.”

“Some cultures believe a long life brings wisdom. I’d like to think so. Perhaps, part of that wisdom is to recognize some of life’s baffling paradoxes such as the way human beings have a huge propensity for good, and yet a capacity for evil.”

“Even the power of faith which frequently inspires great generosity and self-sacrifice can fall victim to tribalism. But through the many changes I have seen over the years: faith, family, and friendship have been not only a constant for me, but a source of personal comfort and reassurance.”

On family
“Like all the best families, we have our share of eccentricities, of impetuous and wayward youngsters and of disagreements.”

On womanhood
“It has been women who have breathed gentleness and care into the harsh progress of mankind.”

On the meaning of Christmas
“The message of Christmas reminds us that inspiration is a gift to be given as well as received and that love begins small but always grows.”

On being an inspiration
“To be inspirational, you don’t have to save lives or win medals.”

“I often draw strength from meeting ordinary people doing extraordinary things: Volunteers, carers, community organizers, and good neighbors; unsung heroes whose quiet dedication makes them special.

“They are an inspiration to those who know them.”
