Hojgaard storms clear

PARIS, France (AFP) — Rasmus Hojgaard charged to a six-shot lead at the French Open on Friday, the Dane following up his record equaling opening 62 with a second round 65.

That put him on 15 under par, a record 36-hole score at Le Golf National, home of the 2018 Ryder Cup.

The 21-year-old extended his overnight two-shot lead with three straight birdies at the 15th, 16th and 17th.

Another birdie followed at the first but he gave the shot back on the fifth before notching three birdies in his last four holes to put himself in a superb position for the weekend.

Frenchman Paul Barjon emerged as his nearest challenger on nine under with a little help from an eagle putt from 61 feet at the par-five 14th.

South Africa’s George Coetzee is placed third a shot further back after signing for a 66.
