Pagunsan shares 5th place

Juvic Pagunsan birdied three of the last four holes to salvage four-under-par 68 and joint fifth place at the close of the Panasonic Open golf championship at Ibaraki Country Club in Ibaraki, Japan Sunday.

The 44-year-old Filipino finished on 17-under, five shots behind Japanese amateur Taiga Semikawa who closed with a 65.

Pagunsan collected six birdies against two bogeys in the final round. He earned 4.4 million yen (roughly P1.8 million).

Semikawa closed with a 66 to beat compatriot Aguri Iwasaki by one shot.

Over in Taiwan, Justin Quiban settled for a share of 14th spot after firing a 70 in the final round of the Yeangder TPC at the Linkou International Golf and Country Club in Taiwan.

Quiban completed 72 holes on 10-under in a tie with Pawin Ingkhapradit, Daniel Fox and Chapchai Nirat.

Australian Travis Smith won the event on 19-under after a 66. Lee Chieh-po took second on 17-under following a 67.

Meanwhile, Abby Arevalo fired two eagles on his way to six-under-par 66 and make the cut in the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout at the Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Arkansas.

That 66 was a big 14-stroke improvement from her opening round as she moved to 2-over for the tournament.

Starting at the back, Arevalo holed her approach on the par-4 13th hole for her first eagle and followed it up with a birdie on the next hole to reach the turn on 3-under.

She made another eagle on the par-5 fifth and birdied the next two holes before dropping a shot on 8, her only bogey.

Arevalo missed only two fairways and two greens as she climbed to joint 35th.

Clariss Guce was the best-placed Filipina at joint ninth on 3-under after a 69 while Dottie Ardina shared 16th on 1-under following a 73.

Meanwhile, Pauline del Rosario missed the cut on 10-over following an 81.

Kiira Riihijavi was alone on top on 9-under after a 66.
