Senate, Bulacan fete fallen rescuers

The Senate and the Bulacan government on Tuesday paid tribute to the heroism of five rescuers who died in the line of duty during the onslaught of super typhoon “Karding.”

Senator Robinhood “Robin” Padilla filed a Senate resolution 234 lauding the heroism of Narciso Calayag Jr., Jerson Resurreccion, Marby Bartolome, George Agustin, and Troy Agustin of the Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

“Whereas, the heroism and bravery shown by these five men, who sacrificed their lives to save their people, is an exemplary act worthy of praise and emulation and more importantly, an embodiment of dedication, courage, devotion to duty, and commitment to public service,” Padilla said in his resolution.

The resolution expressed profound condolences to the bereaved families of the fallen rescuers and posthumously accord them the highest commendation.

Separate resolutions were also filed by senators Joel Villanueva, Ramon “Bong” Revilla and Lito Lapid.

Meanwhile, apart from the financial assistance from the local government of Bulacan, the bereaved families will also get financial assistance from Gov. Daniel Fernando,

Funeral arrangements have been made and the five will receive the highest awards from the province.

Friends and colleagues mourn the deaths of the brave rescuers who have been at the service for more than 10 years now.

Jeddah Vistan, a colleague at the Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said she still can’t believe that her brothers are gone.
