Bolick red-hot as Northport strikes down Meralco

Robert Bolick scored a career-high 44 points, barely a week after scoring 33, as the NorthPort Batang Pier struck down in overtime the Meralco Bolts, 101-95, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on 30 September at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Bolick pumped in 22 straight points in one crucial stretch when the Batang Pier were trying to complete a rally.

Meralco was then leading at 67-47 and about to put away the Batang Pier when Bolick sank shot after shot.

The 5-foot-11 guard suffered from cramps but didn’t give up and instead pushed his team to victory.

“This is a testament to our practice. When you practice hard, it reflects in the game,” said Bolick who set a previous scoring high when Batang Pier suffered a heartbreaking 105-104 loss to the Bay Area Dragons.

“Coach (Pido Jarencio) gives me confidence … it feels great to play,” said Bolick.”

Despite his sterling performance, however, Bolick mentioned the contributions of Prince Ibeh, the hardworking import, who had just recovered from Covid-19.

Ibeh had to leave the game in the late stretch, but not after lodging in 12 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks.

“I think Ibeh should be the best player,” said Bolick. “He brings so much energy on the defensive end. If not for his inside presence, we won’t win. He’s been hurting, but he keeps on fighting.”
