Google upskills Filipinos with scholarships

Multinational technology company Google is pledging to help 39,000 Filipinos via its Google Career Certificates scholarships.

On 31 September, Google launched the online training program that aims to upskill students and jobseekers with IT-related jobs as the country strengthens its digitization.

“Google is committed to supporting the Philippines’ economic growth through the opportunities created by the country’s growing digital economy,” Bernadette Nicario, Google Philippines country director, said.

According to Nicario, the country’s unemployment rate of 5.2 percent comes with the growing job postings related to technology.

The online training programs in IT support, UX Design, data analytics, and project management are designed to be completed within three to six months at Coursera.org.

Google Career Certificates is in partnership with Globe Telecom, Department of Trade and Industry, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
