Jarencio awed by Bolick’s shooting

Pido Jarencio is not the guy who is easily impressed.

A lights-out shooter himself who tangled with University of the East legend Allan Caidic during their college days, Jarencio once shot 50 points for the University of Santo Tomas.

But on Friday, Jarencio could not help but be awed by Robert Bolick’s red-hot shooting that powered NorthPort to a 101-95 overtime win over Meralco.

Bolick made 22 straight points in one stretch on his way to 44 points.

It was the second highest output by a NorthPort player next only to Stanley Pringle’s 50 points he achieved against Columbian Dyip during the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup.

That 44 also was the highest made by a local player since RR Pogoy scored 44 for TNT against Alaska in the 2020 Philippine Cup.

Jarencio said Bolick is the best scoring guard he has ever coached.

“Yes, he is. He’s extraordinary,” said Jarencio, adding Bolick is the best scoring guard he has ever coached. “He knows when to score, he knows when to share the ball. He is a very intelligent player.”

Aside from scoring, Bolick was also the team’s best playmaker with seven assists.

It was Bolick’s second straight career high. Six days ago, the former San Beda stalwart hit 33 points in the Batang Pier’s heartbreaking 105-104 loss to the Bay Area Dragons.
