New ‘Money Heist’ spinoff to start production

The heist continues.

On 29 September, Netflix announced that a new Money Heist spinoff, Berlin, a Las Casa De Papel, which is set to start production.

Berlin is the story of Andrés de Fonollosa a.k.a. Berlin, de facto robbery gang leader portrayed by Pedro Alonso.

“Berlin’s character has the most sparkling personality to place it in another universe. We loved the idea of introducing a new gang around Berlin in a completely different emotional state,” said the show’s creators Esther Martínez Lobato and Álex Pina during a press conference in Madrid.

The original Money Heist was a Spanish crime drama Netflix acquired in 2017. Its five seasons depicted two well-planned heists led by El Profesor Sergio Marquina, who later on was revealed as the brother of Berlin.

Aside from Alonso, in the cast of Berlin are Michelle Jenner (Isabel) as Keila, a wizard in electronic engineering; Tristán Ulloa (Fariña) as Damián, a philanthropic professor and Berlin’s confidant; Begoña Vargas (Welcome to Eden) as Cameron, a kamikaze who always lives on the edge; Julio Peña Fernández (Through My Window) as Roi, Berlin’s faithful squire; and Joel Sánchez as Bruce, the relentless man of action in the gang.

Berlin will have eight episodes. Shooting starts 3 October in Paris and Madrid.
