Transport Usec. Chavez candidate for press secretary

Transportation Usec. Cesar Chavez, quoting unnamed sources, on 5 October said he is being considered to replace former Press Sec. Trixie Cruz Angeles.

“I was informed I am being considered for the position,” Chavez disclosed in an interview on ANC.

However, he would “rather not reveal” the source of his information.

“I’m surprised to be included in the list. There are more highly qualified (individuals) for that position,” said Chavez.

The transportation official clarified that while he “expressed no interest” in being press secretary, he admitted he’s “thinking about it” and consulting his family.

“I’m a good soldier….I really don’t want to preempt (the President),” he said.

Nevertheless, Chavez said he believes he can serve the country more if he will stay in the Tranportation Department and be part of the completion of the railway projects, which he thinks will be the “legacy” of President Bongbong Marcos’ administration.

A broadcast journalist prior to his government post, Chavez was formerly station manager of DZRH.

He also formerly chief of staff of former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

In a separate interview, Chavez said Mike Toledo and Gilbert Remulla have likewise been shortlisted as press secretary.

Toledo was press secretary of then-President Joseph Estrada, while Remulla, a former ABS-CBN reporter, and was elected Cavite representative from 2001 to 2007.

Remulla is the brother of Justice Sec. Boying Remulla and Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla.

Angeles resigned on 4 October, citing health reasons.
