Popp tandem tops Opal Cup

The mother-and-son team of Tina and Christopher Popp captured the overall gross title, firing a best-ball, 12-under-par 60 in the 28th Opal Cup championships at the Alabang Country Club Monday.

The Popp tandem edged Neil Arce and Gab Macalaguim via countback.

Arce and Macalaguim settled for the overall low net crown.

Ronald Nunez and Nijay Punzalan won Division 1 with a 61, beating Daniel Roa-Dax Garcia and Zhan Pocholo Medina-Jon Baron who finished second and third, respectively after identical 62s.

In Division 2, Jaymar Reyes and Nicole Lyu shot a 60 to beat Kharisa Limcaco-Masaichi Otake and Carol Nielsen-Naeem Mahomed who carded 61 and 62, respectively.

Pranee Engle and Jason Engle bagged Division 3 with 64. Tricia Magsuci-Toto Magsuci edged Ian Henry-Papoo Reyes for second place via countback after both pairs wound up with similar 65s.

In Division 4, Sarah Medina and Mhalene Limcaco shot a 64 to win by two shots over Merphy Zhang and Charles Liu. Anthony Suntay and Kael Suntay took third with a 67.

Barbie Santiago and Julie Okabe were declared the most honest pair.

The 18-hole tournament, which drew 218 players, was organized for the benefit of Alabang golf caddies.
