Bong Go thanks PBBM for approving the SIM Card Registration Act

Sen. Bong Go thanked President Bongbong Marcos for signing Republic Act No. 11934 or the proposed “Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Card Registration Act” on Monday.

Go was a co-author and co-sponsor of the measure.

“Co-author po ako dito. Para sa akin, maganda po, masaya po ako na pipirmahan na po ito at maging batas na itong SIM Registration bill or act later, dahil marami pong nagagamit dito sa panloloko, ‘yung mga impormasyon ay naibibigay sa kahit sino pong manloloko,” said Go in an ambush interview.

The ceremonial signing of the measure was held in the Malacañang Palace which was personally attended by Go. Also present were Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and other legislators, executive officials and stakeholders. The SIM Card Registration Act is the first law signed by Marcos as Philippine president.

“Truly, the legislation is going to be welcomed by many of our people especially now with reports of the commission of various crimes using mobile phones, including proliferation of text scams and spam,” said Marcos during the signing.

“Indeed with the signing of this law, we set the important tone that it is our national policy to ensure that technology shall only be used to improve our people’s lives,” the President added.

Go early on expressed his confidence that the measure will deter fraudsters and create a safer online environment for Filipinos.

“This will be able to help the current administration protect the welfare and privacy of the Filipinos and make them feel safe as they use their devices,” Go reiterated.
