Drilon asks judge: Grant bail to De Lima or put her on house arrest

Former Senate President Franklin Drilon on 10 October asked the judge handling the cases of former Sen. Leila de Lima to “take a second look” at the evidence and allow De Lima to post bail or put her on house arrest.

In an interview at the Senate where he unveiled a commemorative Legacy Wall with his fellow lawmakers, Drilon said: “If she inclines not to grant bail, may we request that Sen. De Lima be allowed detention in her residence.

“For others, hospital detention is allowed. The same here, the legal issue is, where she should be detained. That is the power and prerogative of the judge.”

Drilon, who was justice secretary from 1990 to 1995, made the appeal following the foiled hostage-taking of De Lima on 9 October.
