Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla on Thursday said he will not intervene in the case of his eldest son who was arrested for possession of illegal drugs last Tuesday.
The suspect, Juanito Jose Diaz Remulla III, was caught during an anti-illegal drug operation that netted an estimated P1.3 million worth of suspected Kush or high-grade marijuana.
The drugs were confiscated during delivery addressed to a house in Las Piñas City, with the Justice Secretary’s son as the recipient.
In a statement phoned in by Remulla and written by DoJ spokesperson Mico Clavano, he said that he will not intervene, influence, or participate in the case of his son.
He also said that he will abide by the oath he took for the position and that he relies on justice for the verdict of his son’s case.
“At 38 years old, he will have to face the predicament as a fully emancipated child,” Remulla said in his statement.
The Justice Secretary thanked the Philippine Drug Enforcement Authority for conducting the operation that led to the arrest.
“I thank the PDEA for doing their job, without fear or favor. I have no conflict with them,” Remulla said.
Remulla said that his son’s arrest was “difficult” for the family, but he “has to respect the justice system.”
“I wish my son a path of redemption,” the statement said.
Remulla is currently in Geneva, Switzerland as part of the Philippine Mission at the 51st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Earlier, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, brother of the Justice Secretary, said that he will return home from Switzerland on Friday.
The Governor also assured the public that he will not use his influence or power to dictate the fate of the case.
“While he is family, my oath as Cavite Governor and as a Public Servant is paramount above any of his alleged transgressions,” Gov. Remulla said.
