Benilde guns for eighth win

Games today:
(Filoil EcoOil Centre)
12 p.m. — Lyceum vs Mapua
3 p.m. — EAC vs Saint Benilde

College of Saint Benilde shoots for its fifth straight win when it tackles listless Emilio Aguinaldo College in Season 98 National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament today at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Game time is 3 p.m. with the Blazers aiming to fortify their Final Four bid while also attempting to add to the woes of the Generals, who have yet to register a win since the season opener last 10 September.

Saint Benilde is currently on top of the standings with a 7-1 win-loss record and will be entering the match oozing with confidence after a convincing 78-69 win over San Beda University last 9 October — its first win over the Red Lions since 2014.

In another showdown, Lyceum of the Philippines University is also hoping to continue its winning ways against Mapua University in the 12 p.m. curtainraiser.

The Pirates are coming off back-to-back wins and will face the Cardinals, who are looking to build from their 67-55 win over EAC last week.

Meanwhile, Team Heroes beat Team Saints, 98-95, in the NCAA All-Star Game yesterday.

This was a win the Heroes savored after ending last season’s All-Star Game deadlocked at 109-all.

The Generals’ Nat Cosejo, who led the charge for Team Heroes with 16 points and seven rebounds, was hailed as the All-Star Most Valuable Player while Raheel Bhyria was picked as the Celebrity MVP of the game where a compilation of NCAA stars teamed up with GMA artists and a select number of Philippine basketball legends.
