The Lady Bulldogs breached the century mark, extending their record win run to 101 straight after shooting down Adamson University, 100-66, in the University Athletic Association Season 85 women’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.
NU displayed another balanced effort on offense as five players finished in double figures led by Tin Cayabyab, who had 19 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.
“Tin Cayabyab has been missing in the past four games. She had a good start and her teammates were giving her good looks to build her confidence,” Lady Bulldogs coach Aris Dimaunahan said.
De La Salle University, meanwhile, held off Far Eastern University’s fourth-quarter fightback to eke out a 65-58 victory and hike its record to 4-1.
Protecting a slim 56-54 lead, Charmine Torres, Lee Sario, and Fina Niantcho engineered the Lady Archers’ 8-1 surge for a 64-55 cushion with 30.1 ticks left.
Niantcho finished with a huge double-double of 16 points and 19 rebounds, while Torres had 16 points and eight rebounds for La Salle, which handed the Lady Tamaraws their fourth loss in five games.
NU raced to an 18-point lead, 31-13, at the end of the opening period and was never threatened from there for its fifth victory in as many games.
Karl Ann Pingol had 19 points and nine boards, Angel Surada registered a double-double of 12 points off a flawless 5-of-5 shooting from the field and 10 rebounds while Camille Clarin and Princess Fabruada had 10 markers apiece.
The Lady Falcons saw their two-game winning streak snapped for a 2-3 slate at fifth.
Dindy Medina had 28 points in a lost cause while Victoria Adeshina got 14 points and 12 rebounds.
