Charles Tiu upset over Benilde’s loss to EAC

College of Saint Benilde head coach Charles Tiu thinks his boys may have gotten too complacent for comfort.

In the wake of the Blazers’ 75-80 loss to Emilio Aguinaldo College in the NCAA 98 men’s basketball tilt, Tiu said Benilde management might have been so lentient with the squad which cost them dearly.

“I’ve been too nice to these guys. I let them get away with a lot of things, gave them a lot of freedom, and when you give that freedom, you expect responsibility,” Tiu said.

“I think they’ve been abusing our kindness.”

Prior to the match, Benilde was aiming for a fifth straight victory after its 73-61 win over the Generals in the first round.

But with grit and determination in the second round encounter, the Generals finally won after nine losses this season.

Meanwhile, Tiu ordered his players to do suicide drills after the match.

Though Benilde is still on top with a 7-2 win-loss record, Tiu is adamant the team can’t afford to relax until they can break a two-decade-long Final Four drought.

“They haven’t achieved anything yet. We have seen Benilde collapse many times. Anything can happen.”
