CEB advances to environmentally-responsible future

Cebu Pacific last year made major advancements in its sustainability program, placing priority on lowering its carbon footprint and increasing operational effectiveness.

As a result of its fleet modernization program, CEB reiterated in its 2022 Sustainability Report its commitment to decarbonization.

By 2028, the airline hopes to replace all of its aircraft with NEO (new engine options). By reducing CO2 emissions per passenger by 17 percent to 29 percent, the initiative is expected to achieve its goal.

Vital in meeting climate goals

CEB Chief Strategy Officer Alex Reyes said that acquiring and maintaining next-generation aircraft is vital to meeting their climate goals and maintaining high-quality services. The airline has implemented a capital expenditure program to replace its older aircraft with fuel-efficient NEO aircraft by 2028.

Reyes added that CEB has also increased and improved its fuel efficiency practices, cutting fuel usage by about 7.9 million kilograms last year, and avoiding 25,059 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions

Additionally, CEB has launched its first commercial Sustainable Aviation Fuel — powered flight from Singapore to Manila in 2022, and has successfully incorporated SAF into its operations through a number of new Airbus aircraft delivery flights.

Made history

With this endeavor, CEB made history as the first low-cost carrier to utilise SAF in its operations in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, CEB president and chief commercial officer Alexander Lao said that they are proud to be the first airline in Southeast Asia to use SAF.  Their effort to partner with SAF suppliers is one of the many initiatives positioning CEB to meet the demands of its customers for responsible and convenient air travel.

It also allows the airline to explore opportunities to shift to more sustainable operations en route to the goal of flying net zero by 2050.
