DoST holds regional sci-tech, innovation week

Botolan, Zambales — The Department of Science and Technology recently kicked off the 2023 Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Week in this town.

The three-day activity had a theme of “Agham at Teknolohiya: Kabalikat sa Maunlad at Matatag na Kinabukasan” which aims to inform residents of the scientific initiatives that can be utilized for the betterment of their lives, especially in the provinces.

DoST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Sancho Mabborang cited that the agency continues to create new innovations that can ease the lives of the Filipinos.

The agency is working hard to put science-based solutions in businesses, academies, and to the indigenous communities to spur development as Mabborang emphasized the previous years that the DoST has achieved such innovations.

He added that thousands of micro, small and medium enterprises in the country have taken advantage of the innovations that helped their businesses to earn and create more jobs and various colleges, universities and educational institutions have also utilized institutional grants in research and development that will help their communities.

The DoST has also helped indigent students to finish college by providing scholarships and granting digital educational technologies to “last mile schools.”

DoST regional director Julius Caesar Sicat said that science and technology is needed for shaping the future and urged everyone to embrace the change and open their minds, provide inspiration to each other and become innovative.

The science exhibit in Botolan showcased innovations such as Disaster-Use Convertible Ketch or the amphibious vehicle and mobile command vehicle that can be used during disaster response, including a mobile education facility in Gerona.
