Some 17 junior and senior high school blind students from Luzon region, including NCR participate in this year’s Computer-Eyes Camp from 1 to 12 August.
The activity was organized by National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), Resources for the Blind, Inc. (RBI), a non-government organization and IBM Philippines.
It is a two-week activity to be conducted face-to-face at the NCDA Disability Resource and Development Center in Quezon City.
This initiative is in support of the Marcos administration’s thrust for government digitalization, making transactions both public and private more accessible through the use of information and communication technology or ICT. The president highlighted the importance to make government seamless through the use of ICT during his first State of the Nation Address.
According to OIC-Executive Director Mateo Lee, Jr. of NCDA, acquired knowledge and skills of ICT is a great equalizer for persons with disabilities to become productive members of society, allowing them to study independently and be employed.
Director Lee also said that blind persons will have equal employment opportunities in the digital workforce, especially among the youth if they have ICT skills.
