47 Filipinos join 2022 JET Program

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program welcomed 47 Filipinos to participate in its annual curriculum for 2022.

The select Filipino JETs scheduled to fly to Japan on 14 August are composed of 46 assistant language teachers and a coordinator for international relations.

His Excellency Japanese Ambassador Koshikawa Kazuhiko congratulated the participants during the send-off reception held at his residence on 15 July.

“Promoting mutual trust and internationalization, participants become cultural ambassadors that bridge Japan to their home nations. Filipino JETs do so well in this aspect, consistently paving avenues for stronger linkages between Japan and the Philippines,” he said.

Participants during the pre-departure orientation hosted by the Japan Information and Culture Center in cooperation with the JET Alumni Association of the Philippines.

The participants visited the Manila Japanese School in Taguig City to learn about Japanese classroom practice. They also received essential resource materials in relation to their role as ALTs and CIR with the Japan Information and Culture Center and the JET Alumni Association of the Philippines.

The JET Program was launched by the government of Japan in 1987 in the hope of deepening mutual understanding between the people of Japan and those of other countries through foreign language exchange and cultural immersion.

Since its inception, around 5,761 participants from 57 countries (as of 2019) have already been admitted to the program.
