Senator Grace Poe tested positive for Covid-19, Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri announced during Wednesday’s plenary session.
“Ma’am, please get well soon from your Covid-19. We pray in (the) Senate that you stay safe and that you can hurdle this. I’m sure you will do well,” Zubiri said.
Poe is the fourth senator who contracted the highly-contagious respiratory disease since the 19th Congress opened last 25 July.
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano was the first senator who tested positive for Covid-19, followed by Senators Cynthia Villar and Imee Marcos.
In a message to Daily Tribune, Poe said she found she was positive for Covid-19 after she underwent an antigen test.
“(Had) an antigen test today. So far, mild symptoms. Mostly headache,” she said.
Despite being positive for the virus, the senator joined the session virtually, along with three other senators namely Francis Escudero, Villar and Ramon Revilla Jr.
Zubiri said Escudero joined the session virtually because he was exposed to a Covid-19 patient.
He added Villar is still recovering from the same illness, while Revilla had an eye operation.
