Fire razes Ipil department store

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Authorities revealed on Tuesday that a fire 30-minute fire caused by suspected faulty electrical wiring razed commercial department store in Ipil, Sibugay province.

Initial reports said that the damage was worth at least P6.5 million in textile and other commercial goods.

Ipil Fire Marshal Fire Lt. Percival Alar said that the fire allegedly caused by suspected faulty electrical wiring burned stock inventories stored inside the 545-square meter warehouse of Novo store located in Ruby Street in Ipil, the capital town of Sibugay province.

He added that the fire broke out at 9:04 a.m. on Tuesday and was declared fire-out at 9:35 a.m. The fire razed the 3rd floor of Asia Consumer Value Trading Inc. building, the operator of Novo commercial department stores in Ipil.

Alar said that no one was hurt during the incident but caused traffic congestion for motorists and there were no reported damages to buildings located around the store since they were each protected by a high-rise firewall.

To recall, a two-hour fire also razed to the ground the P16.2 million main public market building of Ipil town in Zamboanga Sibugay two months ago.
