2 busted while stealing electric wires

In order to provide money for food to be served at the dining table, two men chose to do something illegal just to have something to eat and were able to steal electrical wires in Navotas City, Tuesday night.

Navotas City Police chief P/Col. Dexter Ollaging, identified the suspects as Richard Casariego, 41, with live-in partner, an electrician, of Barangay Tangos-South; and Norman Guy, 35, single, jobless, of Barangay San Jose.

It was around 6 p.m. when the barangay tanods of Barangay San Jose, chanced upon the suspects while carrying what seemed to be heavy belongings while looking suspicious.

They immediately approached them and saw the bunch of electrical wires that the two allegedly stole.

The two were immediately brought to the police station and during interrogation, it was learned that they stole the wires from the Meralco post.

When asked if they were not afraid of being electrocuted because they stole a live wire, one of them answered in Filipino:

“I was also afraid that I might get electrocuted, but it was even scarier that I had no money to buy food for my wife and child,” Casariego said.

As of now, the two who are in the custody of the said station are facing the case of theft.

It was also found out that the electricity and even internet connections are frequently lost in some barangays in CAMANAVA and neighboring areas and the culprits are allegedly the wire thieves, it was also learned that the copper inside the wires is said to be sold at a high price.
