PAL assists those injured by turbulence

The management of Philippine Airlines said Tuesday that it would shoulder all the medical expenses of nine passengers and three cabin crew members who were hurt when severe air turbulence hit one of its flights.

PAL said flight PR113 bound for Manila from Los Angeles via Honolulu, Hawaii encountered what pilots call as no-clear air turbulence or CAT that lasted 10 seconds.

Cielo Villaluna, the flag carrier’s spokesperson, said that the turbulence happened two hours before the flight was to land at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Most of the injured were in lavatories or were not wearing seatbelts as the CAT was not detectable by aircraft instruments.

Villaluna said the MIAA medical team immediately assisted the injured passengers and crew by bringing them to hospitals. She added they were reaching out to all affected passengers.
