Customs seen to meet goal

The Bureau of Customs is optimistic about hitting its revenue target for 2022, according to a BOC official over the weekend.

“With our collective effort, we believe it’s doable;  we will achieve our collection target,” Arnaldo dela Torre Jr., Bureau of Customs spokesperson told Daily Tribune.

The BoC’s target this year is a gross total of over P700 billion. So far, the bureau has collected P638 billion from January to August or the first nine months of 2022,”he said.

“We still have three months to collect the remaining balance of our collection target for the year. If the bureau continues or consistently achieves the monthly target, it is doable,” de la Torre added.

In September, the bureau recorded a surplus of P17.6 billion after collecting total revenue amounting to P79.5 billion.

Moreover, the bureau has exceeded its P61.9-billion target collection last month by 28.4 percent. De la Torre attributed the BoC’s positive performance to various factors such implementation of new programs among others.

“Today, we will continue with our strengthened border control and efficient trade facilitation measures to make sure that we can sustain the progressive performance of the BoC and continue to exceed its monthly target collections,” he added.
