Earlier flight to planet Arrakis

Good news for Dune fans: it will be an early arrival to the planet Arrakis.

After Disney postponed the release of Marvel movie Blade, Warner Studios confirmed that the second installation of Dune has been pushed earlier than expected.

Instead of hitting the big screens on 17 November 2023, it will take the original release date of Blade which is on 3 November 2023.

Legendary Pictures in partnership with Warner Brothers, is once again helmed by the four-time awardee of Canadian Screen Award, Denis Villenueve with an ensemble cast of Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, and Javier Bardem. Producers are Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Villeneuve and Tanya LaPointe.

The second installment is the continuation of the second half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, Dune. Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) will team up with the Fremen to fight House Harkonnen and free Arrakis.

It will also resume the cliffhanger ending about the story of Paul Atreides and his first meeting with Chani (Zendaya), the mystery woman who appears in his vision.

Aside from the anticipated storyline, Dune: Part two introduces new faces and characters as the new story unveils, according to the Hollywood Reporter: Emperor Shaddam IV (Christopher Walken), the ruler who sent the Atreides family to Dune; the emperor’s daughter, Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh); and Feyd-Rautha (Austin Butler), the nephew of the baron.

The first installment of the film was released during the height of Covid-19, yet it became a box-office hit in theaters and topped HBO Max in October 2021. Grossing $400 million globally, it gained six Oscars awards.
