Darkness over Lacson Ave. lifted soon

Let there be light.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna has ordered city electricians to immediately light up the stretch of A.H Lacson Avenue to help deter the commission of crimes in the major roadway.

The avenue being dimly lit has contributed to crimes and hooliganism regularly taking place in the area, residents told Lacuna during the latest “Kalinga sa Maynila” community forum.

In the town hall meeting, Lacuna gathered 104 barangay leaders of the Sampaloc district to discuss problems confronting them like traffic, unauthorized parking on streets, peace and order, public drunkeness, indiscriminate garbage dumping, and illegal drugs trade.

Lacuna vowed to prioritize setting up street lamps after several barangay leaders brought the issue before her.

She said she has already instructed city electrician Randy Sadac to start the street-lighting project as funds had been allocated by the local government unit for that purpose.

The mayor said that aside from deterring crimes, lighting up streets and thoroughfares would help minimize accidents involving motorists and pedestrians.

During the forum, some residents of A.H. Lacson took the opportunity to bring to Lacuna’s attention their complaints against Barangay 420 chief Mike Regala for allegedly allowing vehicles to be parked illegally within his jurisdiction.
