Tropang Giga extend Castro deal

Jayson Castro isn’t going anywhere.

Twice hailed as the “Best Point Guard in Asia,” Castro will remain as a TNT Tropang Giga for the next three years after he agreed on a restructured deal with his mother squad.

Castro’s agent, Danny Espiritu, told Daily Tribune that the veteran point guard renegotiated with the Tropang Giga management and they have agreed on a partnership that will last until September 2025.
It is already the sixth contract of Castro with the TNT franchise.

“He still has a live contract until 2023 next year, but we agreed to renegotiate with TNT, so he’ll stay with the team until 2025,” added Espiritu in a telephone conversation.

The 5-foot-10 Castro is the winningest player in TNT’s franchise history, winning all seven championships with the Tropang Giga since being taken with the third pick in the 2008 Rookie Draft.

On top of winning seven titles, Castro was also a five-time Best Player of the Conference winner and a two-time Finals Most Valuable Player.

He was also a five-time Mythical First Team member, four of those time came during the time when June Mar Fajardo became the league’s most dominant force, winning the MVP award six straight times.

Already at the latter stretch of his career but still remains an efficient playmaker and take-charge guy, Castro is keen on ending his career with the Tropang Giga as his contract expires when he is already 39 years old.

Castro is the second stalwart that the Tropang Giga signed to a long-term deal in the past two weeks.

Prior to him, TNT signed Calvin Oftana to a three-year contract, a development that came days after acquiring him from NLEX in a three-team deal.
